About Us

Allies for Earth is a not for profit organization based in Zimbabwe, dedicated to supporting sustainable development and climate action across the Southern African Development Community (SADC). Our mission is to address the urgent and growing challenges of climate change, while ensuring that the voices of those most affected by its impacts are heard and empowered. We work towards a future where climate justice, equity, and resilience are at the heart of sustainable development in Southern Africa.

We believe that tackling climate change is not only about protecting the environment but also about fostering inclusive economic growth, social equity, and sustainable livelihoods for all. Through advocacy, community engagement, and innovative solutions, Allies for Earth is committed to building a region where people and nature can thrive together, no matter the climate challenges we face.

Our Mission

At Allies for Earth, we are driven by the urgent need to address the climate crisis and to promote sustainable, climate-resilient development in Zimbabwe and across the SADC region. We seek to:

  • Advocate for policies and actions that reduce greenhouse gas emissions and promote adaptation to climate impacts.
  • Empower communities, especially the most vulnerable, to take action on climate change through education, capacity-building, and access to climate finance.
  • Foster regional cooperation and cross-border partnerships that enable climate action at scale, ensuring that no one is left behind.

Our core values guide our work and reflect the spirit of solidarity that defines our approach:

  • Urgency: The climate crisis is already impacting Southern Africa— from droughts and floods to food insecurity. We act with urgency to deliver meaningful solutions that help communities adapt and thrive.
  • Equity: We recognize that climate change disproportionately affects marginalized groups—rural communities, women, youth, and indigenous peoples. Our work centers on climate justice and ensuring that vulnerable populations are supported in the transition to a sustainable future.
  • Collaboration: Tackling climate change is a collective effort. By working alongside governments, businesses, civil society, and local communities, we create partnerships that scale sustainable solutions across the region.
  • Innovation: From renewable energy technologies to climate-resilient agriculture, we embrace innovation to drive lasting change and ensure that climate solutions are both effective and locally relevant.

What We Do

  • Advocacy & Policy Engagement: We engage with policymakers at local, national, and regional levels to shape climate policies that align with the global goals of the Paris Agreement and the African Union’s Agenda 2063. Through our work within SADC and other regional platforms, we advocate for strong climate action that is ambitious, fair, and tailored to the specific needs of Southern Africa.

  • Education & Awareness: We believe that informed communities are empowered communities. Through educational campaigns, community workshops, and digital resources, we raise awareness about the impacts of climate change in Zimbabwe and SADC. We help citizens understand their role in mitigating climate change and building resilience to its effects.

  • Climate Resilience & Adaptation: Zimbabwe and the wider SADC region face significant challenges due to the intensifying impacts of climate change, including droughts, erratic rainfall, and food insecurity. We work directly with communities to implement climate adaptation projects, such as water conservation techniques, sustainable agriculture practices, and disaster risk reduction initiatives. Our goal is to ensure that vulnerable populations have the resources and knowledge they need to adapt to these changes.

  • Sustainable Energy & Renewable Solutions: Access to clean, affordable energy is essential for development, yet many communities in Zimbabwe and Southern Africa lack reliable electricity. Allies for Earth supports the transition to renewable energy, advocating for solar, wind, and hydropower solutions that reduce reliance on fossil fuels, lower carbon emissions, and create sustainable job opportunities in green industries.

  • Climate Finance & Just Transition: We work to mobilize climate finance for projects that support adaptation and mitigation efforts across Zimbabwe and SADC. In particular, we focus on securing funding for projects that prioritize social equity, ensuring that rural communities, women, and youth have access to the resources needed to thrive in a changing climate. We also advocate for a just transition for workers in climate-sensitive sectors like agriculture, mining, and energy, helping them shift to more sustainable livelihoods.

  • Regional Collaboration & Knowledge Sharing: Climate change knows no borders, and neither should climate solutions. We work with regional institutions such as SADC, the African Development Bank (AfDB), and UN Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) to share knowledge, develop joint strategies, and implement projects that tackle climate challenges on a regional scale. By fostering collaboration across countries, we aim to create a stronger, unified approach to climate action in Southern Africa.

Why We Exist

The impacts of climate change are already being felt across Zimbabwe and Southern Africa— from prolonged droughts and desertification to rising temperatures and increased frequency of extreme weather events. These changes threaten food security, access to clean water, and the livelihoods of millions of people, especially the most vulnerable.

At Allies for Earth, we recognize that climate change is a global problem with local impacts. But we also believe that through collective action and innovative solutions, we can create a climate-resilient future for all. Our work is focused on addressing the unique challenges faced by Southern Africa while building sustainable, scalable solutions that can inspire change across the continent.

Our Vision

We envision a Southern Africa where:

  • Climate resilience is built into the fabric of communities, empowering local populations to adapt and thrive in the face of climate change.
  • Sustainable, low-carbon development is the norm, ensuring that economic growth and environmental protection go hand in hand.
  • Renewable energy powers homes, businesses, and industries, helping the region transition away from fossil fuels and towards a cleaner, greener future.
  • Vulnerable communities, especially women and youth, have the tools, resources, and support they need to engage in climate action and shape their futures.

Our vision is a just and sustainable Southern Africa—one where climate action leads to lasting, positive change for people and the planet.
